Brandy alexander
Brandy alexander
First, there was the gin-based Alexander, with Crème de Cacao and liquid cream. Someone, somewhere in the early 20th century dropped the gin in favour of cognac and created the Brandy Alexander. The first recipe with gin comes from Hugo Ensslin's book "Recipes for Mixed Drinks" (1916). If you use cognac, the cocktail is heavier, to be served at the end of a meal only, as a digestif.
